Meeting the needs of Older Adults and the Disabled in Southwest Michigan

OBRA - Nursing Facility Pre-Admission Screening and Annual Resident Review Program (PASARR):

A Federal regulation called the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA), mandates that all individuals who are entering Medicaid/Medicare funded nursing facilities must receive a comprehensive mental health assessment if they are identified as having a serious mental illness or developmental disability. Senior Services OBRA Program completes these assessments for all individuals who meet these criteria in Kalamazoo County.

A pre-admission assessment is performed before an individual enters a nursing facility, and an annual resident review is completed thereafter.  The purpose of these assessments is to verify medical necessity for a nursing facility, and more importantly, to make mental health recommendations which will assist the facility in providing necessary mental health support and services.

For more information about the Senior Services OBRA Pre-Admission Assessment and Annual Resident Review contact us at (269) 382-0515 Monday - Friday from 8:30am-5:00pm.  Our fax number is (269) 382-3189.
